Karen Squyres – Ayers Career College Staff Testimonial

I’m Karen Squyres. I’m a career planner here at Ayers College. I have been here for 15 years.

My favorite part of my whole job is when I get a new student in, especially like single mothers or anything like that, who’s never had any direction. Nobody’s ever been there to say “Hey, yes! You can do that!” When I get them in here, from seeing where they start and then when they’re finished, their self-confidence is just through the roof, and they’ve got some skills now that they can go out and support their family. I like that part of it, I really do like that part of it.

I’ve had moms and daughters start together, and I’ve had dads and sons start together or cousins, sisters, etc. It’s really neat when I get families in here. I do get some that they graduate and then their mother will come, so yeah I guess so, we have family members will start coming in.

We have the best instructors in town, and our labs are really good! Our class sizes are very small. They get a lot more one on one with the instructors, too, so that’s really good. We’ve really added a lot of new things, and it’s grown. We’ve got a nicer school now that it’s grown, the student body has grown, and the teachers. Pretty much a lot of the instructors are still here.

When they (the students) leave out of here, they’re very well trained, and they’re ready to go, you know they’re going to be pharmacy techs, medical assistants, or HVAC techs, they are trained – they’re ready when they get out of here.
