My name is Renice Jackson, and I am a certified pharmacy technician. I went to Ayers Career College to learn how to become a pharmacy technician.
The training was very interesting and very hands-on. You had knowledge of what you were doing when you went into the field. I always wanted to do something in the medical field and wasn’t sure what, I leaned more towards the pharmacy technician field because it seemed interesting and things change all the time or you’ve got different drugs coming out all the time and it’s just – change.
Plus, you can work in different areas, not just in retail. You can work in hospitals, you can work in home care, or you can work on the computer end where you’re fixing the computers for the pharmacies that have their computers go down and stuff like that. It’s a wide open field.
My pharmacist tells us all the time, he really couldn’t run that pharmacy if it was just him because he needs all of his technicians. When we have a technician short, if one calls in sick or something, it can get pretty crazy in the pharmacy without an extra technician because we need all our bodies just to make that pharmacy run smooth!
My kids thought it was pretty cool when their mom went back to school. They’re like “Mom, you’re going to school. I’m glad you’re going to school! You’re learning about the stuff that I’m learning about like Math..” and all that other stuff so yeah, they thought it was neat that I was back in school.
