ET Program Wiring and Mounting Lab Project

by on February 14th, 2014 in HET Job Training Student Testimonials

Students in the ET program worked on a wiring and mounting lab activity in the ET Practice Room. Campus Operations Manager Chuck Stripling said “Our decision to build a room with drywall in the ET department has allowed us to simulate many different applications from installing home entertainment systems to wiring data, coaxial, and telephone cables.”

ET student Aaron Lewis says “It is so cool to do actual real-life activities in the practice room. It helps you learn so much better when you are able to go and do a hands-on activity of a concept that you have been studying about in the textbook.”

Subject: From Mike Rich

I want to thank you Mr. Cummings. When I attended you class, I learned a lot of stuff about the electronics Industry. From the computers to the entertainment to the telecommunications to the security, etc.

You taught us what the job market was like in our chosen field as Electronics Technician.

It paid off to be there in class everyday and get those Excellent Attendance Awards plus the grooming. Plus paying attention to detail and lessons that were taught. When a person strives for excellence, they will definitely benefit from it. Me getting and holding that 4.0 gpa was an added bonus. The major companies out there look at the total package and they do extensive background checks to see if you are worth their time, effort, and money they invest in you.

Before they offered me the position with their company, they took me through several steps to see if I was worth their time and if I would be an asset for them.

1. They did a telephone interview.

2. They had me take a written test.

3. They did a personal one on one interview with me.

4. They did a drug test.

5. They did a background check on me (including employment background).

What you taught us was…..

To answer the questions directly when doing the interviews.

Everything that you taught us in class about all the wiring and equipment was on the test.

You talked about grooming. It makes us look good and feel good about ourselves.

I paid attention and remembered what you taught and said. On the written test, (there was about thirty people that took it that day), five us knew the wiring diagram (and I was one of them). Because of what you taught, I aced the test. On the grooming, I did not were jeans to the whole process, in fact I wore khakis and a nice shirt and was clean cut and shaven.

Because of all the above, I stood out. There was two positions open here where I am at, and thirty people applied for it. Because of my schooling, my gpa, my grooming, and my background. I was offered one of those two positions. And because I stood out, I was offered a rate of pay above the starting pay. (keep in mind that I never worked in this field before. It is all because of what Mr. Jesse Cummings taught us.)

I have attached a copy of a letter that I received from this company, to this e-mail.

My advise to all students is to pay attention to what you have to say because you know what you are talking about. It pays off more than you realize.

Again Thank You for being a great teacher.
