MDA Lockup – Do a little time, do a lot of good

by on July 5th, 2016 in Campus Events

“Do a little time, do a lot of good!” Ayers Career College participated in this years MDA-Lockup for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Darlene Robinson (Dean of Student Affairs) was “arrested” by Deputy Hogan to help raise money and awareness for the MDA. She was able to raise $200 as donation to the cause!

MDA Lockup

The MDA fights to free individuals — and the families who love them — from the harmful effects of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases so they can live longer and grow stronger.

When you go behind bars for MDA, the money you raise will fund researchers working to find breakthroughs across diseases and uncover treatments and cures. Your contribution will also give kids and adults living with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases the care they need from the moment of diagnosis, and will empower families with life-enhancing resources and support. Programs like MDA summer camp, support groups for families, and equipment assistance are all ways MDA uses the money you raise to make a meaningful impact. mda.org

Ayers Career College participates in the MDA Lockup in honor of HVAC student Chris Venable, whose son is effected by Muscular Dystrophy.

Ayers Partners with Westwood Elementary for Paint Your Heart Out Project

by on May 17th, 2016 in Campus Events

As a Community Partner of Westwood Elementary School, Ayers Career College is proud to volunteer, or offer donations, for projects they are involved in. Last week, the staff at Westwood painted the homes of elderly or disabled residents of Shreveport as part of the “Paint Your Heart Out” program. Ayers was happy to supply everyone with cold water to keep them cool!

Ayers partners with Westwood Elementary for "Paint Your Heart Out" 2016

“Paint Your Heart Out” is a long standing tradition in our community – nearly a quarter of a century old! This year, 1,000 Volunteers painted the homes of fifty elderly and disabled people in Shreveport, and also provided homeowners with working smoke alarms.

The program started in 1992, and almost 1,500 homes have been painted since the program launched. Funding for this program comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, via the Community Development Block Grant, as well as from private donations from those in the community. The entire project costs a little more than $300,000 and includes prep work, paint and supplies. This year, there was a total of 61 paint teams, 19 of those paint teams were from Barksdale Air Force Base!
